Novica, which operates in association with National Geographic, features a virtual smorgasboard of jewelry, gifts and home decor from artists and artisans around the world. Many of the designers are from the poorest countries on earth - Novica's mission is to give voice to these talented individuals, and in doing so, change their lives. They even have a microloans program where you can help your favorite artist.

Jewelry from Novica is as varied as the designers themselves, but all of it is original and unique. You won't have to worry about someone else showing up wearing your new statement ring or that exquisite new cuff bracelet! Prices are moderate.

My only complaint about the site is that it's a little unintuitive to search and navigate for something specific. Then again, there's so much to see here that getting "lost" now and then is almost more of a diversion than an annoyance. One of the fun features of the site? The "Shop by Region" search, which is like visiting an international bazaar from your desktop.
